Wonderful news! For the second year in a row, I’ve been awarded an official media credential to the TCM Classic Film Festival. I’m excited to return to the premiere classic film gathering in the United States. I can’t wait to meet up with fellow film fanatics to experience the camaraderie, special guests, movies, and other events TCM is organizing. Prior to the festival, I’ll be releasing more The Road to TCMFF 2017 pieces. Once the festival goes live, I’ll have daily diaries on this blog; I’ve invested in a digital recorder for on-site interviews; and I’ll be sharing live reactions on Twitter and Instagram. Post-event coverage will include detailed reviews. Prepare to be inundated with updates!

Hi. I watched City That Never Sleeps for the first time in years recently. Searching images online I came across a pic of Gig Young’s character with the Mechanical Man. The source was your site Can you direct me to the page? And who was the actor played the part? Jack Fuller, Edinburgh.

Jack, I’m happy you found my blog when searching for information about CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS (1953). Such a great film! Wally Cassell plays the mechanical man in the film. My post on his character can be found here:

Yeah. I managed to find it. My mother is 85, and as my brother and I grew up she’d insist we sit down and watch all the great old movies from Hollywood. Her favourites included Come Back Little Sheba, I Remember Mama, Sorry, Wrong Number, 3:10 to Yuma, Strangers on a Train, etc. We watched City to a flood of remarks about the Mechanical Man’s predicament, his pathos, the way we all are forced into performing roles we never choose…. And so on. Yes. She’s the first cinephile I ever met.
