That time I channeled False Maria

That time I channeled False Maria while on break from the San Francisco Silent Film Festival while wearing a Medusa cap—because why not? The festival gave me a new appreciation of METROPOLIS (1927). In 2010, its programmers screened the most complete restoration of the film. I’d always enjoyed the visuals, but now the story telling made more sense, and the Alloy Orchestra‘s percussive score with its integration of non-traditional instruments matched industrial images and moved my emotions. A mesmerizing experience even before the automaton appears!
