2018 Summer Reading Classic Film Book Challenge

2018 Summer Reading Classic Film Book Challenge

This is the summer I finally entered Raquel Stecher‘s Summer Reading Classic Film Book Challenge! She is a film writer who runs the classic film blog Out of the Past. Yes, she is a Robert Mitchum fan!

Anything that encourages me to read my always growing slush pile is a good thing, and ever since I started listening to audiobooks when I drive, I’ve found my total books read per year has increased dramatically. Working as a sales rep, I spend a lot of time in my car. Summer alone, I’ve listened to over fifty hours of talking books.  Whether it was been done by my eyes or by my ears. I definitely consumed enough classic film books to enter last year. The minimum to complete the challenge is six.

Something else has impacted my reading. I’ve been meaning to get my eyes checked for far too long. I’ve been experiencing eye strain and fatigue, likely worsened by all my screen time during work hours and off. Some fine print has gotten too small. Coordinating my schedule with my husband’s so that he could accompany me to the optometrist was very complicated. We managed to make an appointment that didn’t conflict with any of our commitments. I now have prescription readers, and I am back to being a fast reader!

As for the challenge, reading is only part of it. I have to review the books I’ve read to be able to count them. I’ve shared some quick takes on GoodReads, but I’ll be fleshing out my reviews here, and I have to do that ASAP. My deadline to post my reviews is one week before summer truly ends–September 15. Once I post my reviews, let me know if they stir your interest in the books or if you’ve already read them!
