Sorry for the radio silence! Between film fun and work, I feel like I’ve been on a whirlwind world tour since spring, and I’ve finally slowed down and had a chance to catch my breath and get some rest. I’ve so much to catch you up on! In the previous four months, I attended three multi-day film festivals–the TCM Classic Film Festival, the San Francisco Silent Film Festival, and Capitolfest. I passed on Cinecon this year not because of its offerings, but because a wise woman knows when she needs a break.
If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, or if you follow Spellbound by Movies on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook, you’ve likely seen some live coverage of these events. It can be fun and a little stressful reporting on screenings as they happen and attempting to share unique and insightful content with images from the last film swirling in my head as I prepare to see the next. While hot takes have their place, getting to sit with a film for a while, savor it, and fully digest what I’ve consumed lead to deeper insights.
My hiatus has allowed my head to catch up with my eyes, given me time to gather my reflections, and restored my energies enough for my writing itch to return. Since this is my blog, I’m going to write away about what I want to, even if some months have passed. After all, this is a classic film blog. I’m writing about films decades after they were first released, so what’s a few months or more in comparison? If the Classic Movie Blog Association had an annual prize for slow blogging, I suspect I’d win it this year, but I’d gladly accept the recognition because it would mean I’ve been writing!
