This week’s mail is giving me festival FOMO! The 2026 San Francisco Silent Film Festival schedule is out. I unfolded its poster-sized mailing to see what goodies they are screening and who is accompanying them. The fest’s offerings are excellent as always, and there are premieres attendees will get to see first. I’ll share my picks later.
My immediate thoughts? I miss sitting in the Castro Theatre‘s balcony and gazing upon its big screen as the story unspools and musicians translate moments and emotions into sound. I miss my friends, one now gone, I’d see the films with and try to dine out with as quickly as possible to get back to see some more movies. This is not my year to return yet.
Which friends of the blog are going? Does anyone have pieces in the program and/or are presenting? Are you covering the San Francisco Silent Film Festival as press, official or not? Besides vicariously enjoying your experiences, I want to promote links to your pieces and any coverage–and contribute my own. If you’re up for it, I’d love to organize a Spellbound with Beth Ann podcast episode where a group of us chat about the fest. Contact me if you’re interested!
Readers of my blog and listeners of its podcast, I’ll keep you updated on what’s forthcoming.
