TCM Classic Film Festival 2023 Banner

TCMFF 2023 Recommended Reading

For the second year in a row, I was like a lot of other classic film fans–vicariously enjoying the TCM Classic Film Festival from home! My life is vastly different than its pre-pandemic version, and I’m not ready nor able to return to the fest yet. Instead of sharing any reviews or wrap-ups of this year’s edition, I’ve created a list of TCMFF 2023 recommended reading for you to check out!

Laura G. at Laura’s Miscellaneous Musings

Laura is among the most prolific classic film bloggers, and she’s an experienced, longterm TCMFF attendee and reviewer. She pairs her extensive film knowledge with an easy-to-consume, engaging writing style. She compares and contrasts different festival editions, recaps official and unofficial events, reviews films, and links to previous reviews of movies screened this year.

Kim Luperi at I See a Dark Theater

Kim devotes her blog to classic movie-going in the Greater Los Angeles area, so of course the TCM Classic Film Festival is major topic of coverage for her. She has a researcher’s mind for attention to details and digging up facts to share, yet her writing is never dull or jaded; it’s full of catchable enthusiasm. She runs a very fun pre-code Instagram account, too.

Aurora at Once Upon a Screen

Aurora has one of the most recognizable, smiling faces in classic film social media. You very well may recognize her! She runs a popular classic film and TV blog. Her writing is highly relatable, covering movies from a passionate-yet-informed fan perspective. Her great sense of humor means she never forgets to highlight the fest’s funnier moments.

Karen Burroughs Hannsberry at Shadows and Satin

Like everyone else on this list, Karen is a seasoned TCMFF attendee. She’s been attending the film festival since 2013. She’s an expert on film noir and pre-codes. On her blog, she writes in insightful long-form to dig deep into her subjects. She runs the popular noir newsletter THE DARK PAGES, and she’s published books on the bad girls* and bad boys* of film noir.

As the above bloggers add to their coverage, I’ll update this post!
